Within our strategic focus on several sectors, we are seeking an Engineer – Middleware Support & Database to join our team.

 

The Role

The Engineer – Middleware and Database is responsible for providing technical support for Middleware and Database platforms in critical IT systems. The role includes proactive maintenance, problem determination, and problem source identification to ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Due to the critical nature of these platforms, the candidate will be on call 24x7 and may work remotely, taking the initiative to resolve reported problems in line with service commitments. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine maintenance activities, perform random network/system health audits, and keep updated records.

  • Prepare technical reports on health audits and present findings to customers.

  • Attend technical incidents and provide first-line support to incidents reported to the N*able service desk on a 24x7x365 basis, ensuring compliance with appropriate SLAs.

  • Take ownership of technical issues and collaborate with other LOB Engineers to resolve advanced issues as necessary.

  • Follow up on customer complaints until resolved, ensuring close supervision to meet agreed SLAs.

  • Adhere to standard Help Desk operating procedures and accurately update Service Desk tickets following defined procedures.

  • Coordinate Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) requirements with vendors:

    a. Ensure on-time delivery.

    b. Update relevant systems and internal databases.

  • Periodically update customer solution files and maintain up-to-date details.

  • Engage with Service & Maintenance Contract management/operations:

    a. Prepare hardware inventories.

    b. Prepare inventories for application/software licenses.

  • Update internal customer databases with accurate customer information.

  • Maintain internal documents, ensuring they are updated and properly filed.

 

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in administering & troubleshooting of Application Servers - WebSphere, WebLogic etc.

  • Experience in implementing, operating, and managing Middleware and Database platforms.

  • Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc. and DB2 database is preferred.

  • Experience with Integration middleware platforms such as Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) platforms is an added advantage.

  • Ability to critically evaluate situations and use troubleshooting skills in a complex integrated environment.

  • Ability to learn new middleware and database platforms quickly based on experience with similar platforms under minimal supervision.

  • Exposure to server infrastructure solutions such as High Availability and IT Disaster Recovery Solutions is preferred.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (or equivalent).

  • Certification in Oracle or DB2 technologies.

  • Certifications or demonstrable proficiency in at least one Middleware technology (Application Server, Enterprise Service Bus, Business Process Management platform) from major global vendors.

  • Minimum two years active field experience.
